Statement of Faith

At Rochester Christian School, we believe the Bible is the very Word of God, the source of all knowledge, and our absolute and final authority defining what we must believe concerning God and what God requires of us.

Our beliefs can be summarized as follows:

• We believe in one eternal, knowable, and sovereign God.

• We believe God exists in three Persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

• We believe God created the universe out of nothing.

• We believe that because of Adam’s sin, as well as our own sins, we are all sinners.

• We believe that God sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, to live a perfect life and die on the cross so that we may be forgiven of our sins and declared righteous before God.

• We believe in salvation through faith alone, in Christ alone, and by grace alone.

• We believe the Holy Spirit is active in the world today, opening our hearts so that we may know God, understand His Word, and be assured of our salvation.

In the Reformed tradition, we believe that the purpose of Christian education is to equip our children to be world-changers for Christ so in our teaching we place an emphasis on:

• The Infallible Word of God – The Bible is the only unchanging standard of truth and all creation can be understood only in the light of the Word. Simply put, the Bible is the lens through which we view and comprehend the world around us.

• The Sovereignty of God – God is in control of everything and everything is part of His divine plan. Every inch of creation represents His kingdom and this reality provides the impetus for Christian education.           

• God’s Covenants – An important key to understanding the Bible is understanding God’s covenants (promises or agreements) with His people. The most significant of these covenants is the covenant of grace whereby God has provided for our salvation through Jesus Christ.  The covenant of grace is corporate in nature and includes the children of believers.  This reminds us not only of the importance of educating our children in the ways of the Lord, but the importance of having that education occur in the context of a believing community.

• Christ-Centered Teaching – Christian education involves more than daily prayer time, chapel, or Bible class. Every aspect of the school’s instruction is Christ-centered for in Christ is “hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge”.
